Connected by the Silk Road,invigorated by the Fashion Show.
The costume culture show representing “The Belt and Road”, one of the big events in the graduate season, was successfully held at the sports field in Soochow University, southern district of Dushu Lake Campus at 19:00, 16th of June, 2019. This event was jointly organized by Soochow University Graduate Student Federation, Students’ International Communication Association and Graduate Student Federation branch of College of Textile and Clothing Engineering.
Cao Jian, dean of Graduate school of Soochow University; Wu Xuemei, secretary of the department of Graduates in school’s party committee; Zhao Yiqiang, director of the Graduates Management Office; Zhu lvhua, deputy chief of SICA; Zi hong, deputy chief of SICA; Dong zhaoqin, secretary of the Party Committee of College of Textile and Clothing Engineering; Guan Jinping, deputy dean of College of Textile and Clothing Engineering; Liu Jinguang of the Propaganda department of the Party Committee; Yu hao, deputy secretary of School’s Youth League Committee, were present at the site of the event. Over 300 students coming from different schools of Soochow University took part in this great scene.
Speech from the Officer
Mr.Cao gave an official speech on behalf of all cooperating departments. He mentioned that under the circumstance of building up better education together with foreign universities, Soochow University pushes forward this process of “being international”, strives to speed up the cultural fusion between Chinese and foreign students with management skills emphasizing assimilation. He hoped that this event, eventually would highlight the spirit of “The Belt and Road” for students in Soochow University, making the cultural communication between students from different countries more beneficial.
Beginning Dance:《Mulan》
Performed by students from School of Chinese Language and Literature, the passionate dance brought the brave lady back to life when marching towards warfare, and ignited the atmosphere of the whole event!
Show of Chinese Costume:《Chinese Costumes to the World》
Hibiscus is no match for beauty, wind dances in palaces with pearls and jades. The show unveiled the great changes in classic costumes from Tang Dynasty to the Republic of China, bringing back the art of the traditional clothing in China. The grandeur was too much for meticulous observation.
Song:《A Journey to the Mountains and Seas》
This fair-sounding song, sung by Xiang Tianshu, Luo yu, was inviting and intoxicating.
Show of Foreign Costumes:《Charm from Foreign Lands》
It feels like the ancient path continues to resonate with bells, old clothing styles are still roaming around. Twelve foreign students, all coming from countries alongside the Road: India, Pakistan, Ukraine, Mauritania, Kyrghyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Italy, Azerbaijan, Laos and Korea. They were dressed up in their own culture costumes, it was a feast for eyes.
Showtime with foreign students
“Havana” in Saxophone edition by Usman was the first to come. Swirled up in deep peaceful rhythm, the Latino met the unique sound of Saxophone, sparkled like no other;
“Dance of peacocks” by Zhanar Lulu came next. Softly wiggling in graceful gesture, the dance revealed the proud of a peacock and the beauty of it, making everyone relaxed and happy;
“Diamond” sung by Joey and Meera, then, brought everyone to those shining days in our life, when we were free of burdens and stress;
“Soch na sake” by Meera and Joey was the last song in this session, it aroused those true, soulful feelings in one’s heart.
Cooperated Show:《Everlasting Friendship around the globe》
This, was the most prepared which brought to the scene an experience that was out of this world. Performed by both Chinese and foreign students in Chinese traditional costumes and culture shirts of Soochow University, this part was applause-winning.
Chorus:《To Love and To Bond》
Up to this moment, tonight’s cultural costume show reached its end, accompanied by the sound of this beautiful chorus. All members in this big show walked up the stage and sang a song together. Everyone was drowning in happiness. We were proud of today, of what we managed. We dream and go on journeys for the bright future, we stay hand-in-hand when struggling, we are, and will always be, a big, loving family.

There was a special part in today’s show, a board on which there were histories of the Road’s development, cultures of different countries which took part in the Road. Audience could scan the QR code to learn more about the detailed information, and also, to do a little quiz.

The ancient Silk Road stretches long and unbroken for thousands of miles, lasts unnumbered years. The unique spirits were born, which hold “Cooperate peacefully, embrace and be open, learn from each other, strive for win-wins” as core.
Our school possesses a system for talent-cultivating, covering the textile and clothe engineering industry. Under the guidance of the calling to build a “Double First-rate University”, we aim to cultivate high-level talents in textile who are innovative and caring for international environment. We actively explore new patterns, and achieved at the same time.
This event, based on “The Belt and Road” proposition, brought the the world stage our country’s costume styles together with that of other countries along the Road, through presenting featuring costumes. The aim is to promote cultural communication between China and foreign countries, walk together towards the bright tomorrow. Students from Soochow University will, definitely, devote themselves to this great establishment of a Shared Future for All Mankind.
