1. 居留许可申请：Residence permit application
持X2签证的学生，一般不需办理居留许可手续。
持X1签证的留学生，自入境之日起30天内办理内必须办理居留许可。逾期公安局将处以一天500RMB的处罚。初次办理居留许可须面见申请人，并提供如下材料：
（1）本人有效护照及复印件
（2）《境外人员体格检查记录验证证明》地点：长江路738号国际卫生旅行保健中心
（3）《临时住宿登记表》
（4）填写《外国人签证居留许可申请表》，粘贴一张近期半身照片（3.0*4.0cm）
（5）入学通知书和学校出具的公函（由留学生办公室办理）。
注意：12个月以内居留许可：400RMB; 12－36个月居留许可：800RMB 在居留许可有效期内，持有人允许多次出入境。
2. 延长或变更签证：Extending or changing the visa
持短期X2签证入境的留学生，来华后不必变更为居留许可即可在中国停留签证规定的时间，在签证有效期内在华学习。X2签证到期前若申请延长学制一学期，若学院批准可帮助其申请延长X2一次，延长时间以不超过原有签证时限为准。持居留许可的学生，可在签证到期前申请继续学习，获得批准后由学校出具资料，帮助其申请新学期的居留许可。变更居留许可须首先办理JW202表，临时住宿登记表和《境外人员体格检查记录验证证明》。
留学生在签证或居留许可有效期满前需继续在苏大学习，须于期满前申请延期。逾期公安局将处以一天500RMB的处罚。
3. 护照遗失或补办
因护照到期领取新护照后，留学生必须在取得护照的10日内先到留学生办公室申请，然后前往市公安局出入境管理处办理签证或居留证件补办手续，并及时办理住宿登记的更新。
如发现并确认遗失护照，必须马上按照如下程序进行处理。
（1）留学生本人持有效证件到丢失地派出所报案，并领取报失证明；
（2）留学生办公室领取相关证明信；
（3）持派出所开具的护照报失证明、临时住宿登记单、留学生办公室开具的证明信前往市公安局出入境管理处开具护照报失证明；
（4）凭护照遗失证明前往本国驻华使馆申请新护照；
（5）领取新护照后，留学生必须在取得护照后立即到留学生办公室申请，然后前往市公安局出入境管理处办理签证或居留证件补办手续，并及时办理住宿登记的更新。
1. Entrance Visas：
International students must possess a regular passport, with a study visa either X1 or X2, to enter China.
A student under an X1 visa, within 30 days of entering the country, must go to Jiangsu Public Security Bureau to apply for a residence permit
A student under an X2 visa can stay with the period stated on the visa from the day he/she enters China. It is not possible to apply for extra entries; however, it can be extended for one time with the same period as the last one.
Students arriving at school on other types of visas must go to the international students’ office to show your passport to personnel responsible for this issue and receive their advice and instructions.
Note! If visas and residence permits expire accidentally, you may be subject to a fine (500RMB/day). If you are carrying an X1 type visa, you must change it into residence permit with all necessary documents within 30 days after you enter China.
2. Residence permit application:
Required materials and procedures are:
(1) Health certificate issued by the Suzhou International Travel Health Center. (No. 738 Changjiang Road, Suzhou)
(2) Residence registration document from the local police.
(3) “Application for Visa and Residence Permit” issued by the school.
(4) “Application Form for International Students Entrance Visa”
(5) Copy of admission letter and prove letter of university.
(6) A passport, passport copies of front page and visa page.
(7) Two passport-sized photos.
(8) Fee: 400RMB for 6-11months, 800RMB for 12 months and above
Note! Those who have yet to pay their tuition should first pay their tuition and then handle the visa extension.
3. Replacement of Passport
After replacement of your passport in China, you must within 10 days first go to the International Student Office to apply and then go to the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau Exit-Entry Administration Office for processing passport number changing procedures, or you will be punished for illegal residence.
4. Lost passport replacement:
Whenever a student finds that his passport gets lost, he should go through the following process as soon as possible.
(1) Report to the local police station where the passport is supposed be lost, and get a written document.
(2) Go to international students’ office to get a letter.
(3) Submit the report, temporary residence form and the letter from the international students’ office to the headquarter of the police in Suzhou to apply for an official certificate about the lost passport.
(4) Apply for a new passport in the embassy of home country in China with the official certificate.
(5) As long as a new passport is issued, the student should apply for a new visa with documents offered by the international students’ office and the official certificate from the headquarter of the police.
