A Message to Overseas SUDAers
March 23, 2020
Dear overseas SUDAers,
I trust this message finds you well!
Since its outbreak last winter, COVID-19 has remained a common concern of the nation, and you, the overseas SUDAers, are always in our thought. At this stressful time, we hereby extend to you our warmest greetings.
The campaign against COVID-19 is proceeding well in China thanks to its effective emergency response. The Soochow University community is united in pooling resources to protect against the coronavirus. However, considering the serious global situation of the epidemic, the World Health Organization has raised the global risk level of COVID-19 to ‘very high’. Some of you may feel anxious and scared facing such a severe epidemic. Please stay positive and optimistic. We believe that you can protect yourself fearlessly and will never lose your confidence in our winning the battle.
Dear overseas students from Chinese mainland, if you are planning to return to China out of safety considerations, make sure that you go through the reporting procedures in advance, keep our staff informed and be noted that campus admittance is not allowed until further notice. Do keep protective measures in place during your possibly tiring international flights.
Dear overseas Chinese students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and our international students, please respect the rules and do not return to the campus prior to the admittance date that has yet to be finalized.
We hope that all SUDAers in every part of the world will stay safe and healthy. To this end, we suggest that you：
Update yourself on the release from the local health authorities, strictly follow the professional virus prevention instructions and the best practices in this regard;
Follow the local government’s suggestions/rules and minimize your outdoor activities and avoid crowded public places if possible;
Monitor your physical and mental condition, and if symptoms such as fever, cough, cold and psychological discomfort should arise, please contact the designated healthcare delivery facilities/organizations in time and tell them the truth;
Keep to the requirements and expectations of your host university or research institution, and accomplish your work or studies in spite of the epidemic-induced difficulties;
Keep informed of the latest epidemic prevention information issued by the local Chinese embassy/consulate. If you encounter any difficulty, please contact the embassy/consulate and SUDA in time. We will spare no effort to come to your assistance.
Like the vernal splendor, our longing for your safe return keeps growing with each and every day passing by. We will stand firm behind you, wherever, whenever, however! Each and every one of us will help to define our battle against the epidemic.
We, the entire SUDA community and the blossoms on campus as well, are right here waiting for you, rain or shine! We are all expecting the day when we can join each other on campus, and we surely will.
President, Soochow University
